Resources for NYC Entrepreneurs

New York City is the City of Dreams. Millions have moved here to pursue their passion of acting, music, finance and even entrepreneurship. Because of its competitive nature and “hustle” culture, many say “If you can make it here, then you can make it anywhere!”

At Maker’s Row we want to see all entrepreneurs make it. So here’s a helping a hand and some resources that might help push you along your journey. 

Fashion

CFDA Fashion Incubator was launched by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) as a business development program to help emerging fashion designers grow and sustain their businesses in New York City.

[Did You Know? New York has the highest number of Fashion Designers in the United States.]

Design Entrepreneurs NYC FIT + NYCEDC teamed up to offer a free “mini MBA” for NYC based emerging fashion designers. If you’ve been in business for at least one year, you are eligible to apply. Each year, 25 designers are accepted into the program and are immersed in weekend learning intensives focusing on marketing, financials and operations taught by FIT instructors and industry experts.

Minorities

WE NYC  was created in 2015 by the New York City Department of Small Business Services. It is an initiative focused on increasing income stability for women by supporting entrepreneurship and strengthening the economic impact of women entrepreneurs. They host free workshops and events in all 5 boroughs.

[Did You Know? According to a recent study, NYC is home to approximately 359,000 women entrepreneur businesses representing 32% of all registered companies in the city.]

Women’s Business Center from our offices in Brooklyn and Staten Island, the BOC Women’s Business Center (WBC) offers business training, one-on-one counseling and financing resources to help women entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses. By educating and empowering underserved women entrepreneurs, the WBC contributes to the economic, cultural, and social vitality of our communities.

Small Business

SCORE is great for experts looking to give back, and for novices looking for direction. SCORE has 70+ volunteer business-expert mentors dedicated to providing insights and knowledge to small business owners and those wishing to start a business with.

Digital NYC no matter what type of tech company you manage, this site has a collection of events, news, resources, and courses that are useful to tech leaders. This comprehensive online portal aims to be a driving force behind NYC as “The World’s Fastest Growing Technology Center.”
