Architectural lines make a lasting statement on the landscape, but we can’t exactly cart around the Guggenheim when we want our outfits to have the same impact. Enter: The Common Knowledge, a line of leather handbags reminiscent of contemporary architecture.
Speaking to designer Zara Dramov, there’s no denying the influence that built environment has had on her designs. With architect parents, she’s developed a nuanced take at how she understands form. “My parents have had a huge impact on the way I see form,” she says of her line. “I’m very interested in the way that soft organic curves meet strong, hard lines.”
“I have an industrial design background, so I am also in tune with the fact that design is everywhere, and I’m very conscious that a city is masterpiece from the ground up- whether it’s a building, a street sign, or even a garbage bin.”
Dramov’s influences aren’t just limited to American buildings, but stints in London and Paris informed her design as well. Other influences include 3D printing – a technique she hasn’t yet incorporated into a collection – and laser cutting, which was the main inspiration behind the Pierced Bag and Pierced Bucket.
