Off the back of the 2015 Affordable Art Fair, we’ve been inspired to seek out affordable pieces to add flair and personality to our homes. So, we turned to 08 Left, the art brand headed up by husband-and-wife duo Ryan and Heidi Miller. 08 Left is a labor of love sparked by a passion for travel and aviation, heavily featuring the intricate forms of planes, airports and air traffic control towers. Here, we had a quick chat with Heidi to learn about their influences, and why Made in America is right for them.
Who are you, and what do you do?
We are 08 Left and we create art for travel & aviation. When we say aviation we mean the amazing, inspiring, intricate and yet global, system of technology, skill and humanity that allows us to see this amazing planet.
What influences and inspires you?
We’re inspired by aviation, obviously. We love traveling, we find airplanes fascinating and intriguing and we, actually, gulp, love airports. In reality, we love art and there is a unique art to be found in the world of aviation and travel. It’s beautifully balanced, it’s detailed and yet overwhelmingly explosive, it’s creative, it’s worldwide, it’s culturally influenced and yet, strictly regimented. The aviation world is a never-ending flood of influence and inspiration in itself. We are huge fans of modern art, love the simple, balanced, colorful vibe of that genre and are influenced tremendously by it.
Why did you choose Made in America?
The simple fact is that we live here. This is our country and our home and it makes sense to be a part of this place for everything we can. We value it. We want to make it better and we hope to welcome any and all and we hope that as they make this place their home, they feel the same as we do.
