Black Friday and Cyber Monday are big shopping days in the United States, but did you know Saturday is also a dedicated retail day? Small Business Saturday was first observed in 2010 as an effort to support small or local brick-and-mortar businesses. Where Black Friday is mostly dominated by major corporations and Cyber Monday is dominated by online retailers, Small Business Saturday is a perfect counterpart to support an important group that impacts U.S. economy.

How to Participate

American Express launched Small Business Saturday in 2010 and it continues to grow.  According to Forbes, more that million 94 people shopped locally on the event last year.

Join – Join the online directory of small businesses.  Whether you own a store, restaurant, or shop you can be listed and Amex card holders will be rewarded for shopping at your business.

Social – Be apart of the conversation and be more discoverable by people that are looking to support local businesses. The official hashtags are #SmallBizSat and #ShopSmall
